• Permissions groups are additive, meaning that if any group that someone is given has access to an item, the person will have access to it.
  • Some groups are designed to be added to others. For example, the PI groups (such as CHEM PI or CHEM Lab Manager) only have the items selected that are in addition to the worker level group (such as CHEM User). So if you are adding a PI who has a CHEM permit, make sure to add the CHEM PI group and the CHEM User group.
  • You can also mix types of groups if the need arises. Someone may be a CHEM and BIO PI and also use an x-ray machine. They should be assigned:
    • CHEM PI
    • CHEM User
    • BIO PI
    • BIO User
    • XRAY Worker
  • Each time you modify the permits someone is attached to (from the worker interface), you will need to make the corresponding change in their user record. This includes:
    • Attaching them to a new type of PI
    • Promoting them from User level to Lab Manager level
    • Assigning them a new permit type
